PIP Face to Face review was created by Tommy3
Hi All,
My partner had a face to face today, very nervous and anxious.
His PIP was awarded two years ago - until 2018, so confused why he had another one -
He has enhanced daily, and lower mobility (although did your assessment and said
this should be higher) - His main problem is depression, but also suffering dizziness, tinitus, sleep apnoea and varicose eczema.
He is now worrying that this will all be cancelled. What are the success rates? If this is rejected, not sure if he can go through the stress of appealing.
He was assessed by capita, a Mental Health nurse.
Hope someone can offer reassurance for my partner.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Nearly all PIP claims are being reassessed by the DWP a year in advance of the current award ending.

I haven't seen any statistics on reassessment success, but based n what I see on the forum the rate is far higher for reassessments than it is for initial claims.

You should be able to request a copy of the report next week by contacting the DWP office that handles his claim, this will give you an idea of what the DWP will do.

PIP Decision are currently taking 2-4 weeks at the moment.

Hello there,
It is over 4 weeks since my face to face interview.
I have not heard anything, was told it would be 2-4 weeks - I am quite stressed about
this.
What to do please?

It could be due to summer holidays, I would contact the DWP office dealing with your claim for an update.

My partner has finally received the PIP decision letter today - 6 weeks after face to face. They have taken away everything - 0 points awarded for everything?

On your assessment, it was over this.

In the statement from them - it says he was observed to walk 35 metres to assessment room, with normal pace - he was holding onto me! Also said he had increased difficulty in preparing food, washing bathing etc - he cannot do this, I have to help him. "You were observed to be able to handle, grasp and lift papers" - I did this - infact everything written is like it's about another person!

Everything has scored 0 - totally totally wrong - and the money stopped from 26th July - despite receiving decision today.

What is the next step please - and how long does it take?

Thanks you,
Tommy3's partner

The next stage is to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, the process typically takes 5-8 weeks, be aware that revision rates are low and you may need to go onto appeal which might be an additional 4-5 months.

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
