Transferred from DLA to PIP was created by Margaret
Earlier this year I was invited to apply for PIP as my DLA was due to end. I read and used your guidance forms not with the intention of embellishing my claim but simply to make it easier for an Assessor to understand clearly what I can and can't do and identify what help I need. In addition I provided evidence to support my request, GP letter, prescription lists. Consultant letters and medical results. Due to being housebound I requested a home visit, this I wasn't offered. Hence I had to pay my GP to write a letter of support, following receipt of the GPs letter I was granted a home visit.

The Assessor arrived at our home and was here about one hour. I invited the Assessor to look around the house this was declined. After going through each of the questions, I then had to move a few feet using my walker, and move my arms and legs, hands and fingers. My husband was with me during this assessment and answered questions when directed to him or if he felt the question or my response was not fully understood.

Once the assessment was over, I then had a long wait to hear the outcome. After 3 weeks I rang to request a copy of the report this actually arrived prior to my official letter, which arrived 2 weeks later on. I would highly recommend requesting a copy of the report. I found it very revealing.

I am absolutely delighted to let you know I was successful in obtaining PIP at the high level for both, which is what I was awarded originally for DLA.

When I felt I needed support it was this forum I turned to. The PIP forms themselves are not straightforward, so read all you can to gain from others experiences. We allowed 2 weeks to complete the form doing a little each day. Then prior to posting it off made a photocopy. My husband paid for next day recorded delivery so we were sure it had been received.

Do not give up in your right to apply for assistance. I worked all my career in the NHS, life now is a very different journey in a wheelchair. I hope this helps you.

God bless and good luck on your journey.
