Hi was awarded PIP with 8 points for care and 10 points for mobility, been told that I could apply for a care allowance my lady wife is verry ill with polymyalgia and is finding it near impossible to do simple household chores, trouble lifting and carrying and can only walk short distance without getting very tired, falls asleep as soon as she sits for 5 minutes, is it possible to get care or attendance allowance as we are both over 65 I have read all the information on both and confused if it would be worth trying to get either, would like some advice please?
Kindest regards

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

As your wife is over 65, she can claim Attendance Allowance if she meets the criteria. There is only a care component to AA, there is no mobility component. Our guide can be found in the 'other benefits' section of the members' guides.

It would then be possible for someone to claim Carer's Allowance for looking after your wife (or you) for at least 35 hours a week. The fact that you are in receipt of PIP yourself does not exclude you from claiming Carers' Allowance - but I'm afraid it cannot be paid to anyone who is claiming the State Retirement Pension.
