misunderstood 0-20 metres question!

hi,

I have my assessment soon! Have been looking over my copy application form and am quite surprised to see I put I could walk 20-50 metres (regularly and reliably!) I can't. The only reason I can imagine I put this was because (a) if I really exert myself - forgetting the after-effects. And (b) in particular, because I didn't realise how long a metre was - I got a tape measure out today and was quite surprised how long it is.

So, my question is, can I explain this at my assessment? Would it make any difference in their understanding my problem? Or is it too late and I have to stick by what box (in error) I chose?

Its strange, but the more I reflect on it, the more I think I have under-estimated my illness. I am basically house-bound because of my physical and health and mobility problems, and need a car to get anywhere (on those days I can manage) but am not sure this comes across in my answer to that question.

Thanks.

There is still a chance for you to explain that your walking is more restricted, I would write a short letter explaining the error and why is walking is more limited.

Take a copy to the assessment and ask the assessor to read it before they start the interview and send a copy to the DWP office dealing with your claim, the address should be on the original invitation letter.

You may need to explain in some detail how the error occurred, not understanding how far 20m actually is would be a good start but you will also need to explain how your walking is more restricted as well.

Thank you Gordon, I will. Its really strange, I suppose its a kind of fear too. You want to be as "fair" and "clear" as you can about your illness/health, but with some illnesses this is very difficult to explain and in my case I erred on the side of what I could do some days, rather than what I can't most days! I will take some paper along to the assessment with these points clarified. I think the PIP form is also quite hard to get your head around - its not about your illness as such. Its about the help you need to try and live as normal a life as possible.
