Thanks for your very helpful replies.

I notice from the subject line that I can't type "six". Oh well...

Next question: many of the ways that my visual impairment (nystagmus) affects my daily life relate to my work -- how slow I am at it, what equipment I need to cope with it, etc.

Is it relevant and useful to document that, or do the PIP assessors regard "work" as something apart from "daily life", perhaps meant to be dealtt with by working tax credits?

I have numerous reading aids that help me manage, especially on my computer (dictation software, magnifiers, etc). They certainly help copy with my limitations. Does mentioning such aids weigh for or against a PIP, award do you think? I certainly still have my limitations, just fewer of them.....

Hi,

Here's another question.

nystagmusnet's document concerning PIP claims (nystagmusnetwork.org/documents/dla-pip-and-nystagmus/) says:

"If you have aids but they have not been prescribed it is important to
explain why not e.g. because there is a waiting list for an OT. Medical
professionals are advised to ignore some aids which have not been
prescribed so you will need to make the case for them."

(sorry, I'd take this up with nystagmusnet but they don't seem to have a forum)

(1) Is this what you've heard, regarding aids needing to be prescribed?

(2) I have numerous aids that were accessed for and provided by Most of my aids were supplied by Access to Work (www.gov.uk/access-to-work/overview), although they also help me with daily life outside of work. Do you think provision by Access to Work count as "prescribed"?

Many thanks for any help....

You will only score points for the problems you have with the PIP activities, you may be able to use examples from your work to help support your problems with these activities, but the fact that you work is actually more likely to disadvantage you than help, as there will be assumptions about your capabilities.

In general for PIP, aids are a positive thing and can increase the points you might score, but you must show that you cannot reliably complete an activity on the majority of days, without the use of the aid to score.

As I mentioned in my previous answer, you must need to use the aid to complete a PIP activity, if it merely makes it easier for you to complete the task then you may not score the points.

So there will be an assumption that aids that you have purchased are need less than ones that have been prescribed.

Can you show that the aids from Access to Work were provided following a review by an Occupational Therapist or at least someone with a medical background? If not then they may not count but as always with these situations, you should still provide information about them.
