ESA50 was created by Caracal
I am in a bit of a panic. I filled in ESA50 using your guidance notes, and having multiple problems, and trying to give as much information as possible, this took some time. Due to other pressing issues and depression and pain and recovery breaks, it took me several sessions to finally complete it. I had hoped to send it sooner but it took me much longer to do the final touches than expected and the time was just disappearing. I sent it 1st class recorded delivery, but it took longer to get there than it should have done. The PIP took 36 hours to arrive. Even their quick 2nd class reply only took 2 days. This took 4 days and arrived a day late. The recorded delivery was supposed to put my mind at ease, instead I am having panic attacks. Any ideas on how strict they are?

Should I send in some more information from my doctor, regarding my health? The evidence I sent is several years old. The newest piece is 18 months old and doesn't say much. And there is no evidence for several of my problems. My GP was on holiday, of course, when the form arrived. I requested some evidence re specific topics but the doctor who supplied it ignored my requests and mostly sent stuff that ranged from rubbish to irrelevant.

My GP has agreed to write a new report, dealing with my depression and ailments, that do not have blood tests or x-rays to support them. But he said he would prefer to wait and see, but I wonder if it would be helpful to send it now? Would they accept it now and put it with the ESA50?

The thought that I may have to wait months to see if they have accepted the ESA50 is stressful, but of course if they write back and decline, it will be even worse.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

The first thing to do is to contact Maximus and check that they have the ESA50 and what do they intend to do with it, return your file to the DWP or continue with the assessment process.

Even if they have decided to return your file, DWP policy is to continue with the assessment process providing the ESA50 has been received.

Thanks for your advice. I phoned Maximus which, after I found the number, was very easy. A couple of options and then the phone rang and was immediately answered. No queues, maybe I was lucky. Anyway he said it was with the assessors, and had been accepted. A great relief.

I know they say do not pay for a medical report but I have no evidence for some of my problems. I am concerned because the PIP assessor said there is no evidence for some of your claims. So I've applied to the Doctor again, and hope he gives a better report than last time. I assume it will be a couple of months before I hear from them, enough time to send it in.

The PIP was extremely quick. They received it Friday and I had letter back the following Thursday and assessment 2 weeks later, which was successful.

There are some areas of the country where ESA assessments are only taking weeks but the vast majority of areas are waiting months if not longer.

Thanks for reply. I forgot to ask about Universal Credit, which is being rolled out here. Will it make any difference to the ESA and PIP?

It should not effect you in the short term, at some stage your ESA will be migrated to UC but this is years away at best, your PIP is not effected.
