PIP and carers claim - what's the impact? was created by SwanseaJack
Hi, I have just been awarded PIP at the higher rate for 2 years. I'm also claiming contribution ESA and waiting for decision if I go onto support group. My wife does not work but looks after me pretty much full time, I've had my driving licence revoked and cannot go out without her help.

I think she can claim carers allowance, my question is will my contribution ESA be affected if she gets carers allowance? I have read different it could or could not - any help appreciated!

SJ

Yes she can claim Carers Allowance if she can provide 35 hours of care a week and she does not earn more than £116 a week (after deductions) without it having any effect on your ESA(CB).

You should also check your eligibility for Income Related ESA, this would be paid as a top-up to your ESA(CB), you would be eligible for at least two Premiums, the Carers Premium and the Enhanced Disability Premium.
