DLA to PIP for a deaf person was created by marieukxx
Hi,

My dad received a letter today informing him his DLA which was a lifetime award is being stopped and he can apply for PIP.

My dad is completely deaf but has had a cochlear implant fitted a few years ago. Without that he can hear nothing. He uses several aids around the house to help him.

I read it's quite hard now to get this for deaf people. Does anyone have any advice for me with helping fill in his form.

Your father will be assessed with the Cochlear Implant, so to a considerable extent it will depend on the level of hearing he now has. Also, his hearing problems will have limited impact on his ability to complete the other Daily Living activities, so does he have other problems that will help him to score points?

I would start by having a look at our PIP Claim guide for the criteria that he will need to meet

You should also have a look at the websites for the various deaf charities, they may have PIP information especially for deaf people.
