hi I'm sure this topic has been covered before...but I'm new to the forum.. the letter telling my friend who lives in Scotland her esa support group has been stopped arrived yesterday bank holiday Saturday when no one can be contacted reason they gave was they never received her esa50 which was posted back with envelope provided she is currently on high rate dla for care and mobility but apparently she is fit to work because they lost the esa50 form. my questions are what does she do now offers on the letter they sent her ask her to send her excuses for form esa50 not arriving in writing. or make a new claim for esa a further question would be on arrival to a sorting office are all dwp letters opened and scanned there in the sorting office? if this is the case what happens to the esa completed form and attached information after it is scanned. many thanks in advance jim

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain wheres everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I'm sorry that your friend is going through this :( She has been found 'Fit for Work' on the technicality that DWP have not received her ESA50 from. They will usually continue the process as long as the ESA50 is actually already in the building or arrives shortly.

The claimant should certainly fill out the form, explaining when and how the ESA50 was posted and including evidence of the posting (we always suggest that members get a 'proof of posting' certificate at the very least, even better is to send forms as recorded delivery).

Otherwise your friend will have to ask for a reconsideration of the decision to terminate the claim. This could even go to appeal if DWP are intransigent.

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your friend's ESA without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

hi thanks again for reply my friend phoned the number on the letter and was told her form was in fact received 3 days after the due date which didn't seem to be an issue with him though it was posted 5 days before due date he told her he would update things on the system so they actually had the form 7 days then decided to close her claim and declare her fit for work I wasn't there during phone call and as she was getting prepared for day surgery this afternoon I didn't want to bombard her with questions so my question is will this phone call reinstate her esa benefit ? thanks in advance. George

It is possible that the letter was generated before your friend made the call. I'm afraid the only way to be sure is to phone DWP again :(
