Change in JSA benefits and PIP was created by Sandy Barton
I have just this last week, after moving from contribution based JSA to Income based JSA, had an increase in this allowance, I'm told is due to a disability premium being added, which I was totally not expecting. Still not clear why this has happened! In the mean time, I have been qualified to receive the standard rate of PIP for daily living, wasn't expecting this either, but pleased. Both have been back dated as well. I have struggled financially since February when I was abruptly disqualified from ESA following an assessment when previously I had been in the support group. Just didn't make sense to me. DWP not been helpful. In fact, some of the advisers have been very dismissive and rude! I should have had this money all along, it's blatant abuse. Should I make a complaint? I've had the letter from the Tribunal stating acknowledgement of my ESA appeal and wait as to further response and action needed. Glad I've subscribed now, so can read up advice about the actual appeal.

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

You can certainly complain to DWP about the way you were treated

Complaining to the DWP

In addition, your MP might like to hear about how the system has (or has not) worked for you

Contacting your MP

Now that your appeal has been accepted you can ask to receive basic rate of ESA rather than JSA if you wish (as long as you have fitnotes to cover this period).

At some stage in the next few weeks you will receive a 'bundle' containing all DWP paperwork associated with your claim. This will include their submission saying why they gave the award they did.

You can start thinking about your own submission now but wait until you get your bundle before you actually write it. This will allow you to argue against DWP's comments.

Our appeal guide should be helpful

ESA mandatory reconsiderations and appeals

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your appeal without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)
