Tribunal Representative was created by ElizabethC
Hello,
first post here but expect it wont be my last. Just been turned down for PIP and also in the Mandatory Reconsideration. I'm in the process of compiling an appeal and was wondering what your views are on being represented at appeal by my husband. No worries about being able to present to the tribunal, just wondering if there are any negatives to him representing me.

Hi Pink and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Whilst your husband is entitled to be with you at the tribunal, the title 'Representative' carries very special meaning. If you call him your representative, he will be expected to have knowledge and training in the field of welfare law. If he does not have this, you will be better off not calling him a representative.

Many of our members represent themselves at appeal, especially as it is now so difficult to get trained representatives, with good results so you are not disadvantaged by this.

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your appeal without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too

Thanks for the quick reply. The reason as wondering if he should be nominated as my representative is although I will probably have to represent myself without a professional, because of my anxiety I will probably need him to do most of the speaking to the panel.

You can certainly ask that he be allowed to speak on your behalf. However, it is possible that the tribunal will want to hear from you as much as you are able.
