Hello.

My original PIP award came back with 0 points. I then put a Mandatory Reconsideration, I've now been awarded the standard rate for both living and mobility. I still don't think this is right though, I think I should have been award the enhanced rate instead. They have increased my points in some areas, but not in others, even the it's the same medical condition affecting my abilities. It doesn't seem to make much sense.

Putting in an appeal would be the right thing to do I think, but I'm worried that I might lose my current award, plus all the added stress etc.

Please can you help.

Many thanks.

Can you reasonably see how you would score the extra points for a higher award?

If you do then you can request an appeal.

The Judge of your hearing must warn you if the panel have concerns over the validity of your existing (new) award. You will then have the opportunity to withdraw your appeal.

Most appeals are taking the best part of six months.

The PIP Appeal guide has links to the SSCS1 form that you will need to complete and the Submissions guide has a complete example that you can use to help you fill it in, you do not need to provide detailed reasons at this stage for your request.

Once your appeal is accepted the DWP will prepare their submission to the hearing and send you a copy, whilst you should wait until you receive this to finish and submit your own, you should start to prepare your own case, an increased award will only be made by your showing that you score the extra points for one, so I would start by going back through your PIP2, the assessment report and the PIP Claim guide to see how you might show this is the case.
