UC and Permitted Work was created by Asbo
Somewhere I heard that there'll be no Permitted Work under Universal Credit. Is this right? I know they've not rolled it out nationally yet but it will be coming to my area next year apparently

Yes and no :)

Yes because there is no concept of Permitted Work under UC!

No, because UC encompasses a claimants ability to work, so under "old" ESA, work and receiving the benefit were clearly separated, under UC there is no clear line between the two, that's one of the big selling point of UC, that it removes the huge barriers between receiving benefits and working, it does not do it as well as claimed, but it is a lot better than the "old" system.

Thanks Gordon. So will there be no ESA? I am confused. There will still be a WCA that you need to pass, right? But you'd just declare any earnings from Permitted Work if you do it?

At the moment we have ESA(CB) and ESA(IR), in the future it will be UC and New ESA respectively.

So under UC you will be able to earn like any other UC claimants, under New ESA it will remain Permitted Work.
