Advice please ESA moving to UC area was created by jeannalea
Advice please, I am on ESA WRAG currently claiming in Oxfordshire in a non-Universal Credit Office. I am moving to Norfolk which is full Universal Credit. As I am currently on ESA can I just transfer my ESA claim and stay away from Universal Credit? Or do I have to now claim Universal Credit and make a fresh claim? To add to all this I am moving in with my partner who is working.

Hi and welcome back to the forum - it appears to be some years since you last posted a message!

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

You will not have to do anything with your ESA claim (other than notify DWP that you have moved) with regard to ESA. Claimants are not routinely being switched to UC, it would only happen now if you needed to claim one of the other UC elements (such as Housing Benefit).

I must warn you that your partner's income, assets and working hours will be taken into account if you are on Income Related ESA and could mean that you no longer entitled.

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

Please reply to this message if you have further questions and we will try to help :)
