Additional Evidence with Mandatory Reconsideration

Hello!

I have this week received my PIP award letter, awarding me standard rate daily living needs and standard rate mobility.

Yes this is good news, but I have decided to request a mandatory reconsideration (MR). When I completed the PIP form some months ago I had not discovered this helpful and supportive site. I thought I had been thorough in completing the form including extensive medical documentation, but I clearly misunderstood the Mobility Question of Planning and Following a Journey. It is this element of the assessment I wish to provide additional evidence for particularly relevant to 11 d can not follow the route of an unfamiliar journey without another person or orientation aid. In my award letter they state that because I can drive and do a crossword I have good cognition and therefore score 11a. I can not travel to unfamiliar places alone if I experience an episode of fatigue I can barely focus my eyes never mind orientate myself safely on wards or back to home, I would rely on my sister to assist. Or have a totally misunderstood this question??

I have used your template to draft my MR letter - thank you so much!
I have a letter from my consultant that arrived after I submitted my PIP assessment (but was refused during my medical interview) with pertinent information relating to Q11. I also have an appointment to see my GP whom I am hoping will agree to completing the GP comment template from your site relating to Q 11 only.
Am I also allowed to include as evidence a separate sheet containing my own additional information in answer to question 11 much like the additional notes section at the end of the main assessment.

Should I also note in the MR any inaccuracies with the final report, or am I being picky? I am aware they will review my application and not just the one question I am supplying additional information for.

For those interested I had my medical interview at home and it took 2 hrs. Within a few days I requested a copy of the report, which took a week or two to arrive. The questionnaire scores at the end of the report indicated I would not be eligible for any PIP award, living or mobility. I can tell you now my heart sank some of the contents were factually incorrect - but I put it to the back of my mind and decided I would focus on it once the outcome letter arrived. I knew they could not ignore the sound medical evidence I had supplied, but I am disappointed by the medical report from the nurse that interviewed me.

I had previously been on lifetime DLA (mobility element only) since I was 16 I am now in my late forties and this is the first time I have encountered PIP. Which is why I am going down the MR route, I feel I need to set this as a benchmark for my future PIP assessments/awards. It took me over a week to complete the form in May as I was and still am recovering from a severe lung infection due to a physical disability I have had since birth. It really does take a lot of concentration and effort to complete the form fully. I have already spent a day on the first draft of the MR! I need chocolate!

Thank you for all the advice and apologies for the long post :)

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

You may struggle to score for (d) based on your description of your problems.

The Going Out activity looks at three things.

Planning a route - this is primarily a cognitive or sensory (e.g. blindness) activity. You are being asked about the problems you would have with working out how to get from one place to another, you do not need to be able to follow the route that you are planning..

Undertaking a Journey - this is do with mental health issues such as agoraphobia and social anxiety and is concerned with you leaving the house to go somewhere, they will be interested in the things that stop you doing this. You need to show that you would suffer "overwhelming psychological distress" to meet the criteria.

Following a route - the DWP regard this as a cognitive or sensory activity to do with navigating the route, SO are there problems that would prevent you from doing this? This is different from undertaking a journey, in fact if you cannot undertake a journey then you will struggle to score points for following one. The reasons that you are unable to follow or navigate the route must not be due to psychological distress.
