ESA AWARD was created by Crizzle
I received a text message from DWP to tell me that my payments in the ESA support group will continue. I am happy to say that I did not have to attend a 'medical' which was a great relief. I haven't received a letter yet but I didn't get a letter at all regarding my award 18 months ago. as a result, I have no idea how long the payments will last and constantly have the nagging dread of being asked to complete!eye another ESA 50. Fingers crossed it's not too soon before I have to do it all again. Thank you, the guides were invaluable.
On another note, I had my PIP 'medical' this week and wanted to share my experience. I was given a home visit ( without asking for it). The nurse brought a trainee with her to observe without asking my permission in advance. I was asked a lot of relevant questions and she was typing constantly, while the trainee observed me which was very disconcerting.
When I was asked about how long it takes me to walk to the train station, I said around 15 mins. She asked me how long it would take her. My reply was I had no idea as I felt I couldn't possibly know what her walking pace is like. She asked if I had any pets, when I said no I don't have pets she said no? In a surprised tone. This puzzled me until later in the day when I remembered my neighbours dog bowl is on my side of the shared garden. It seems she may have presumed I had a dog and was going to ask about walking it.
A couple of times when I explained difficulties with showering, preparing and cooking etc, she said is it just because you can't be bothered? In my last pip medical, the physiotherapist said the same thing and by putting words in my mouth used that phrase in the report and awarded me no points on the descriptor. This time however, I was able to clarify the difficulties are due to lack of motivation, exhaustion and lack of focus. In addition, I was asked to measure my peak flow, I asked why it was relevant when I had stated I can manage my asthma so it had no impact on the claim. Her answer was "they ask us to do it".'
I think though what I found most worrying is that when I spoke about my history of falls ( which have resulted in two broken arms as well as numerous minor injuries) She wasn't aware that I have postural hypertension which affects my balance. I had submitted a report from the falls clinic with the form and asked her twice if she had read it along with other medical evidence I had provided, both times she said " it will be on here", pointing to the computer. Similarly, at the end when I asked for a summary of what her report entailed she would only say what descriptors we had covered but wouldn't give me any detail. I asked her to look at the evidence provided before she sent it back to DWP but she didn't seem happy with me saying it. Anyway, she said 4-8 weeks until I get a decision. Or maybe, that's the timescale until I get a letter of no entitlement. My previous award after tribunal was enhanced daily living and standard mobility which finished in July. Fingers crossed I might get good news, here's hoping!

Congratulations on the ESA award, well done.

You should be able to request a copy of your PIP Assessment report by contacting the DWP office dealing with your claim.

A PIP Decision should be made in about 2-4 weeks.
