PIP mobility/mental health V phisical health

Hi,
I have severe complex PTSD.
Have been awarded the enhanced rate of daily living
and the standard for mobility for moving around. I'm unable to use public transport.
As much as my diagnosis is a mental health condition
when I leave the house it also becomes physical as
the extreme fear causes me to lose coordination, to stumble and lurch
and to bump into things and people. I'm not safe and become exhausted quickly.
It will take me a couple of days to get my 'body back'
The DWP says the moving component is for physical and that my problem is 'mental' only. I'm not sure if I should appeal.
Has anyone any experience or advice please?
Thanks very much in advance.

The Moving activity is distance based, so can you show that you can reliably walk is restricted to 200m or less than on the majority of days?

Thanks for the response Gordon,
I put on my PIP form that I could walk between 50 - 200m and then
gave the physical symptoms that happen and the after effects.

DWP response was that I could reliably walk more than 200m and ignored
the physical symptoms.

Forgive me but I am a little confused, your first post says "standard for mobility for moving around", but your last post indicates that you did not score for the Moving Around activity!

Is the award wrong or did you score for the Going Out activity and if so for what Descriptor?

Hi Gordon,
So sorry for the confusion.
I'm not great with concentration or detail.
The PIP scores are 'planning and following a journey' -10 points
Moving around - 0 points.
The DWP have ignored all that I have said about the physical problems
that happen when I'm out of the house that can relate to the 'moving around'
component. That I cannot do it safely, or as another 'normal' person could and that it takes me two or three days to recover and go into a supermarket etc. I can also disassociate and have difficulty talking and understanding other people normally.
Thanks

Thank you for clarifying what you scored.

Did you actually state the distance that you can reliably walk or just use the tick box? If the latter then this may be at the root of your problem! When the DM looks at the distance you can walk they will also be considering the variance, so someone who can walk 75m with a variance of 50m should fit in the 50m-200m without too much problems, whereas someone who can walk 175m with the same variance, may not.

You say that you are not safe when walking, have you injured your yourself at all and is there any evidence of this.

If the walking wears you out the I would expect you to have similar problems with some of the other activities, is this the case?
