DLA Addition to Child Tax Credit was created by Bill-K
Hi - newbie here. I have been subscribed for a while and used the excellent info from Steve & the team - but it's time for me to post stuff, I think.

We have a daughter with learning disabilities, and she qualified for Lower Rate DLA from 03/10/16. She is 16 and still at school, and we continue to receive Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit (CTC) for her. What I didn't realise was that this then entitled us to claim for the extra disability supplement to the CTC that we currently receive - so we didn't claim it.

Yeah...I know..."Durrrr !!!"

Well, what eventually happened was that the HMRC Tax Credits office updated our CTC claim and we were suddenly awarded an extra amount per week for our daughter's DLA disability - and this amounted to around £70 p/w extra !!! This was because the DWP had eventually informed HMRC of our daughter's DLA. I looked into this to see if we might be able to backdate the claim, and found that there had been "A gap in the data feed between DWP and HMRC" - and that HMRC had announced in its Autumn 2016 Statement that those affected by this would be re-imbursed for the lost CTC to which they were found to have been entitled.

This included us - as far as I can make out - so I sent in a Mandatory Reconsideration (MR) request, but it was refused (of course). I have now lodged an appeal against this, as we are talking about approx. £2 - 3K of lost CTC. I have now (finally) received the DWP's response to our appeal, and they appear to be saying that this only applied to applicants who were in receipt of DLA/PIP prior to 06/04/16. I'm now digging online for info to refute this - but I think it is now time that I "go public" and ask for any help that B&W members and guru's might be able to give. There may well be others who might benefit from any responses to this post/thread - and I hope so.

Bill

I'm afraid we don't deal with Tax Credits on the forum, perhaps some members with experience can comment.

Thanks Gordon - and my apologies. As it was related to the DLA aspect of CTC, I was hoping someone might have experience of this.

I will shortly post about our ongoing PIP Appeal, which may be of interest as we are applying for an Upper Tribunal hearing.
