PIP re-evaluation

I am looking for some advice please.
My friend was receiving DLA and was required to reapply for PIP.
We weren’t aware of this site or forum at the time and thus, initially, were unsuccessful in that claim. Then, using this site, we put together a long letter and asked for a re-evaluation.
We then waited. During that wait we were advised to put in a brand new PIP claim because my friend was imminently going to turn 65. So we did.
While waiting for any response on the new claim we heard back about our request for re-evaluation and that my friend had been approved for the care component of PIP but not for mobility (we believe there is a case for a mobility claim).
Now my friend has received a request to attend a medical relating to the new claim we put in.
Our dilemma is whether to attend that medical and continue with the new claim. If we attend and continue we may, with our new knowledge from this site, get both care and mobility approved; alternatively we are worried that the new claim could jeopardise the existing approval and leave my friend worse off.
Any advice or similar experiences here would be welcomed.

A new claim will result in a new Decision which will supersede any previous Decision including the revised Decision that made an award.

If you cancel the new claim, then it is possible that that DWP will take this as a declaration that they should cancel the whole PIP claim, it's possible that they won't and it may be possible to explain to the DWP that it is only the new claim that should be cancelled, not the revised one. The problems is that we very rarely see this situation and I can't refer back to what happened with other members in this situation.

If you continue with the new claim then it can result in any Decision that the DWP believe to be appropriate, this could be the same award as they now have, and increased one, a lower one, or even no award at all. Any new Decision would be appealable.

They must make a decision to attend the assessment or to close the claim, it they do not attend without notifying the DWP then the new claim will be closed and I think it likely that it will also terminate the revised award as well.
