PIP Assessment Recording was created by Harishah
Can a claimant record their PIP Assessment and use it as evidence for any discrepancies should the need for a Mandatory Reconsideration or Appeal arise?
If a recording is possible can that be done on a mobile phone or similar portable audio recorder or is there a specific requirement to the type of audio recorder that can be used legally.
Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

You need permission in advance from the Assessment Provider to make the recording.
It needs to be made to two tapes of CDs simultaneously.
You cannot use a digital recorder such as a mobile phone.
Someone has today reported problems is the media is not new, so make sure that the tapes or CDs are still shrink wrapped and opened in the presence of the assessor.
You need to give one of the recordings to the assessor.
Most members have used two relatively cheap cassette recorders, check that they record without problem, some have used external microphones.

To clarify this a little -
It is perfectly legal to carry out a secret recording - although it is highly likely that the assessment would be stopped and the file returned to DWP if this were detected.
It would be completely up to the Tribunal judge to decide whether to accept a transcript of this as evidence at the appeal hearing. They often prefer to hear from the claimant and pay much less attention to the assessment report anyway.
