DWP esa benefit fraud was created by karinas
I have just rec a dwp letter from the FRAUD section inviting me in to my local job centre in 2 wks for a face to face meeting. Im on nw ESA & DLA. I rang up & was told i need to bring my bank statement to prove who i am (a bank statement is NOT proof of ID). He told me it was nothing to worry about & i would be there 20mins. I have never been called in before. I am not commiting any benefit fraud,im not working and im absolutely terrified. A friend rec the same letter last year, again was told it was nothing to worry about but in the meeting he was accused of £5000 benefit fraud on the say so of an anonymous email..no other evidence. Im so anxious and worried sick i will lose my ESA and i have done nothing wrong. Can any offer advise?

Ka

We have seen a lot of these recently, I still believe that some requests are randomly generated, some come from the Fraud line and others are from anomalies detected by the DWP or other agencies.

The vast majority of them go no further than the interview because there is no case to answer.

You can try ringing to see if you can find out more about the meeting.

Thankyou. I rang and was told i just need proof of who i am so they know they are speaking to the right person. Wouldnt tell me anything more,i have nothing to hide but feel guilty already. I dont think they realise how mentally damaging the letter is...saying i could end up with a criminal record or my benefits stopped. Ive had anxiety and a headache since receiving it and i have hardly slept. Its very upsetting.
