complaining about PIP assessor was created by Sickandtired
Hi, I finally had my PIP f2f and the assessor was awful. He would not take or read my new medical reports, he told me to keep my answers short because he was running out of time, He changed my answers, saying things like, where I had arrived by taxi - that was classed as public transport, he said the distance from the kerb to the reception was 100 meters, I said it was 20 (it was actually under 20m, as measured on Google Earth) and saying I therefore had walked 100m, and so many other dirty tricks.
He also asked me a hypothetical question, he said "if you were in a strange place by yourself and you got lost, what would you do?" I replied that it wouldn't happen because my boyfriend always accompanies me in unfamiliar places because of my problems. He then said "Yes but say you were, what would you do?" annoyingly I replied that I would ring my BF but then reiterated that it wouldn't happen, I wouldn't be alone. He then said "so if you were alone in a strange place and you got lost, you would ask someone..?" I said to him "you'd better not put that down because that's not what I said!" He said he hadn't put it in, but I really don't trust that he didn't. I haven't got a copy of the report yet, but I am compiling a complaint letter and would like to know:
1. is asking hypothetical questions a reason for complaint? Or is it really allowed? I read somewhere on their website "there are no trick questions, the HCP won't try to 'catch you out'" or words to that effect, but that is exactly what he did.
2.PIP customer services want me to email my complaint:
Thank you for your recent e-mail and I am sorry to hear about your experience.
If you wish to make a complaint, you could e-mail me back all of the relevant details including your National Insurance Number and exactly what happened during the assessment.
We would investigate this case and see what we could do about this.
With Kind Regards,

...Whereas, I had wanted to make a 'formal' complaint, is this the correct way to go about it?

Thanks for any advice and comments, and advice to all: record your assessment! I didn't have time and wasn't well enough to source and buy recording equipment, but I wish I had!

I would request a copy f the assessment report before you make a complaint that way you can be specific about your concerns.

Contact the DWP office dealing with your claim to request the report.

I'm afraid I don't think that hypothetical questions are reason for a complaint.

Yesterday, I had a second face to face assessment, to a second claim I had put in, the first being totally ripped a part, ( I had a liver transplant at the time) and was used for sport at the first F2F Assessment, got zero, I re-applied and came to have another F2F Assessment again, I had joined Benefits & work now. I read and filled in the claim form and got prepared. The Assessor, was a very young girl/Woman, very sharp and I had be on guard, I feel that, she put certain Qs across different to the ones on the claim form, which made me feel, I had to give a different answer, which I wasn't happy with, also she didn't really know my condition, and don't think she read my files first or hospital notes , I left feeling deflated, my condition has worsened, and now have to wait, the passing words spoken to me as I left the room, was '' Its been a pleasure doing your Assessment, Thank you''. ?? MMmmm :(

Paul, I totally understand how you feel, so sorry to hear this keeps happening to you. The HCP I had this time was worse than any of the other 4 I have seen, and your phrase "being used for sport" describes the experience very well, if we weren't so ill we'd be able to fight back at the assessment, but I think they use people's lack of strength, and vulnerability, to their advantage. Yes, the questions are very warped, I remember I kept saying "well, that's a very strange question, what do you mean?", but they have had so much practice at their 'sport', one barely stands a chance.
I really hope things go better for you this time, with B&W guides you stand so much better chance of a fair result, but if you don't get an award really do consider an appeal, I am going to. All the best.
