ESA and working tax credits - advice please was created by maverick_spirit
Hello
I'm on ESA and doing permitted work and looking to get my hours up to over 16 as soon as I'm healthy enough to achieve this, which, by my understanding, would enable me to come off ESA and claim working tax credits with the disability element.

Full service Universal Credit is due to be rolled out in my area in March 2018. If I am able to get my working hours up before then and get onto tax credits, my understanding is that I'd be entitled to these tax credits until people with legacy benefits like existing tax credit claims are transferred over to UC (which, it looks like, would give much less financial support to disabled workers with the unwelcome addition of in work conditionality attached to UC too) -

My question is, do any of the moderators have any indication of a reliable timescale for when existing tax credit claims will be transferred to UC?

And, if I tried to work over 16 hours per week and it didn't work out for me, is it still possible to rapid reclaim in terms of ESA within 12 weeks of ending a claim, without having to go through the whole ESA50 process?

Many thanks

The only date suggested for the transfer of existing benefits to UC is 2019, but there is no explanation of which benefits will be transferred at this time, given how the roll out of UC is going the date in 2019 may be optimistic and it will take some considerable time to migrate the 7m Tax Credits claimants over.

Yes you should be able to reclaim ESA within the 12 weeks.
