Given PIP assessment in 5 days! was created by Diane F
I have been getting DLA mobility and high care for over 30 years. Firstly having it for life and then when the goal posts moved I was awarded it indefinitely..twice, the last time being 2 months before PIPS started. I contacted DLA in September giving them the dates of 2 holidays I have arranged, the first was 2 weeks in October. Unsurprisingly a couple of weeks later I was sent an application to apply for PIPS. I filled in the form and gave them the dates of my October holiday which was starting on the 12th. I sent it in on the 5th October and the following week went on holiday. I returned early due to poor health on the 27th and was shocked to find that I had 2 letters from Capita. The first dated the 11th was to say they had received my application, the second dated the 12th was to give me the date and time of an assessment. It was for October 27th at 8.10 am at a clinic! They had arranged an assessment in less than a week despite my telling them I was on holiday. I had also requested a home visit as I need a carer in the morning to help me wash and dress and am virtually housebound unless I have help getting out. Has anyone else had such a quick turnaround? I rang them immediately but they were very unhelpful telling me that my paperwork was being returned to DWP as I didn't turn up for my assessment. I have contacted DWP and explained to them what had happened. Can anyone tell me what will happen next and the best way to continue please.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

The DWP will write to you asking for your reasons for not attending, you will need to explain that you were away and that you included notification of this on your PIP2 when you returned it, Include a copy of the relevant section from the form.

You will then have to wait for them to make a Decision on what they are going to do with your claim, however, being on holiday should be accepted as Good Cause for not attending and therefore your claim should be restarted.

Be aware, the DWP may close your DLA claim. it is important you challenge this if your reasons are accepted.

Thank you. Has anyone else had such a quick response to their PIPS application? The fact that it was so quick worries me as I feel that they could not have read my form, especially as they ignored my holiday dates, or even because they ignored those dates! I also sent them an email regarding my holiday and received the response that someone would contact me within 2 working days. I'm still waiting for that to happen 6 days later.

It's likely the dates were missed when the form was looked at under initial scrutiny, this is done to determine whether a face to face assessment is required or not.

I regularly hear members raise concerns over the time taken to read their forms and I must admit to be confused by the comment, going by my own PIP claim and all the information attached, I would be surprised if it would take a competent reader more than an hour or two to read it in detail.

As your file has been returned to the DWP, the Assessment Provider is unlikely to respond to your email as at this time, there is no assessment in flight.
