ESA Reassessment was created by whaha
Hi,

I have been in the support group over the last 15 months and just had my reassessment on the 19th Oct! Currently I'm still waiting for the final decision to come through..

I'm really very worried at the moment because in the past I generally received the results within 1 week. Also the ESA assessment I recently had was a complete nightmare.

Despite the fact that I have clearly requested to have my assessment on the ground floor and I want no stairs on the ESA form, when my sister took me to the assessment centre we then realised that it has a flight of stairs at the front entrance, moreover my assessment was actually conducted on the 1st floor! It took us more than 1 hour to drive there and my sister took a day off just to take me there and be there for me, so we bit the bullets and even with great pain I still managed to walk to the room on the 1st floor! It was a lady we met and at first she appeared to be very friendly. However as soon as we all sat down everything changed. She asked me to describe my conditions and said that they had contacted my GP and a few specialists for my medical history, they would compare whatever we say against with the information they have... This is quite new to me because I think they never contacted any of my doctors in my previous assessments. But I was actually quite happy that they did it this time, I truly believe that in this case I should have a better chance of being granted the awards. I started to feel uncomfortable when she pointed out that I had mentioned something she didn't see in her records and then pushed me to give her the date, the name of specialist I met for that condition on the spot. I could not do it and then she started repeating she couldn't find it in her records and she cannot move on with the assessment. My sister then pointed out that she should be able to find the details in one of the letters we sent together with the ESA form (my sister managed the hospital letters for me but she was told not to speak right before we began the assessment because she would be acused if she provided any "incorrect" information.) The assessment then continues..but we can tell that the lady was very unhappy and she kept saying that the GP didn't mention it in the report...Other questions she asked like "did someone always go with you when you attending the doctors appointments" "have you been abroad? -
We can check it" "why you didn't ask your gp to make a refer to see xxx specialists/clinics etc” “Doctor xxxxx mentioned that having an operation could probably help you to control the pain, why you didn't do it” ...She did my blood pressure during the assessment, also examined my physical movement. Although she said that if I was in great pain she would stop. The fact was that I told her I was in a lot of pain when she asked me to move my shoulders and lift up my legs high up and I cannot complete the tasks to her standards. She then just questioned "where exactly did you feel the pain; although it's painful you should be able to still perform these tasks, what stop you doing them; you have to do exercises even though you are in pain, if you don't use it you lose it [........]"

I would be grateful if anyone could kindly tell me how long roughly for ESA decision and if anyone experienced something similar? I still need to submit my pip form by next Monday and I have been really stressed. If I failed my ESA, would my pip claim be automatically turned down?

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated

We would expect you to hear about your ESA in about 2-4 weeks.

We haven't heard of a PIP award being effected by a failed ESA claim.
