Regarding an injury compensation payment

I’ve have just been awarded daily living pip benefit and esa disability premium, I was on contributory esa until last week but now am on income related. I had my pip and premium backdated to July 2017 however I have just been awarded a injury compensation award for £45000. I am also in receipt of housing benefit for the last 12 months. Would I be able to buy my council home with this money and have 52 weeks disregarded and just lose housing benefit if I can prove the money is to buy my home or will I just lose all my benefits and have to live off the compensation payment? Thankyou.

I'm sorry but this is not something that we deal with on the forum you need to get face to face advice before you make any decisions.

Your solicitor should have advised you on setting up a trust fund.

If you put your compensation money into a bare trust this is then disregarded for the purposes of "means tested benefits" meaning you can continue to claim Income related benefits and housing benefit, It also protects you from care costs should you need them in the future.

There are many solicitors online who will set up a bare trust for you for around £500 or u can use a local solicitor and expect to pay around £700
