I'm currently claiming ESA support group, been awarded PIP enhanced care and low mobility, I have a young child so also receive child tax credits and child benefit and full housing benefit and council tax support. My boyfriend is not currently working. He is receiving carers allowance and income support while he lives separately but carers for me. We want to move into a new house together but I'm insure how this would effect my benefits? Not just financially but will I have to be re-assessed? I've only just completed the assessments and been awarded for both ESA and PIP and it was an extremely difficult process emotionally! Can any one please advise me. I've tried to find information about it but no where states fully what would happen to an existing claim if it was then a joint claim? Would my boyfriend still get carers allowance and income support for him self? Do I have to make a joint claim? (Obviously I will inform all Benefit agencies if we do live together).
Many thanks.

Get face to face advice before you make any decisions.

There is no reason why your moving in together will result in your benefits being reassessed.

If your ESA is income based either in part or in whole, then one of you is going to have to surrender their claim, either your ESA(IR) or his Income Support.

If your ESA has a Contribution Based element then this will be treated as income in regard to any Income Related claim such as your boyfriend, so your total income will most definitely not the sun of what you both receive.

Your Housing benefit and Council Tax support may be effected

The advisor you see should be able to calculate what you might receive on the various options.
