DWP phone call was created by Katykat
I phoned & wrote requesting a reconsideration of my PIP assessment ( down from enhanced living to standard & standard mobility to none) with the closing date of 23rd Nov. Today I received a phone call from DWP asking if it was convenient for me to talk. I was in a cafe so it definitely wasn’t convenient so I asked if they could ring me tomorrow. So, any tips on what to expect? Will this be likely to just offer me an explanation of how they reached their decision or will they be asking me questions? I’m definitely not accepting the decision, I will carry on to appeal, should I tell them this tomorrow and then back it up in writing?

I would expect them to be asking questions about why you should score higher, so draw up a list of bullet points and keep this with your phone. I doubt they will try and dissuade you from go onto appeal as they have not made a Decision on your MR, but stranger things have happened.

OK, just got phone call from Nurse assessor. She asked the right questions but didn’t ask why I thought I should get a higher award. It was purely medical questions. At the end she told me that she was recommending that DWP should reinstate my PIP award. I have to say that I’m over the moon, BUT a part of me is still on tenderhooks as to whether they follow her recommendation. How common is it that the MR is successful?

If it was the assessor then the DWP must have referred your report back to them for further information.

Well, I’m off on holiday tomorrow so I’m going to put it at the back of my mind for a few days. Need some sun on my painful joints. Much better than drugs

OK, got my brown envelope today. They have reinstated my original award ( enhanced living & standard mobility) with 2 more living points and 2 more mobility points than I was on previous to my reassessment. Also, my award is up from 3 years to 5. I’m absolutely CERTAIN that this wouldn’t have happened without the advice of you moderators and helpful posts from forum members and for that I thank you profusely. If I could add my own bit of advice ( apart from don’t fall for the “ friendly “assessor scenario). Next time they send me a reassessment form where you tick “ easier, harder or no change” I won’t answer no change. I will ALWAYS put as much information as possible about how my restrictions affect me, even if there hasn’t been any change. OK, it makes the form longer to fill in but it just might be worth it.
