My husband had a home visit for a pip medical recently and we are awaiting the result. A few things have been bugging me since then and I would love to hear your opinions.

Medication side effects - hubby is on multiple oral and injectable meds. He gets fatigue, dizziness as side effects. The HP question was do you get side effects and if so what? He said yes, fatigue and dizziness.
HP asked - which medication causes which side effect?
He said - I’m not sure which one exactly since I I take so many at the same time.
HP - I don’t see any medication there that causes side effects.

Now, they do, he does suffer and the drug sheets that come with his meds warns of those side effects but really if you take 5 drugs that all cause fatigue how can you know which one, or combination, or all are causing it?

Nerve damage in the spine caused by neuropathy and diagnosed by a neurologist.

HP - I’ve never heard of that before, neuropathy doesn’t cause that pain.

Slightly speechless

Is this a fairly normal experience of a medical. He has been on highest rate dla for 13 years, I think the wording was indefinitely, although I know that no longer applies.

I would advise you not to look back at his DLA, the criteria for PIP is very different and you cannot make any assumptions on the award he might receive based on what he has now.

You can request a copy of the assessment report by contacting the DWP office dealing with his claim.

It is possible that the assessor did not have an appreciation of how your husband is effected by his conditions or the way his medication causes additional problems.

PIP Decision are currently taking 2-4 weeks.
