PIP recording

Hi folks. Sorry but have been on FAQ and can't find specific answer. My question is around the recording of PIP assessment. I have been looking for dual/or 2 identical voice tape recorders (i.e. not the ones with very poor reviews). However there only seems to be 1 type suitable and to purchase 2 is very costly.

Therefore is it possible to use 2 identical digital recorders (some come with mp3 players and some are just like usb memory sticks). On completion of the assessment 1 of these could be given to the health professional conducting the assessment. Please advise if this is possible and acceptable to the assessment body.

I have seen that a number of people have recorded covertly just a single copy. I would rather not do this but If the first suggestion is not o.k. would covert recording be o.k. to transcribe and use at a tribunal? Thank you so much for your help

As said I would rather go via the 2 recorder route but they are limited in supply unless you pay a considerable amount or get cheap ones that have bad reports about the quality of recording. It would just be cheaper to buy 2 digital USB recording sticks and give one to the assessor (is this possible?)

The reason I ask about covert recording is partly due to the reference made in B&W News from 18th October 2017 regarding Nev Cartwright who recorded covertly on his mobile phone , had this "professionally transcribed" and used it at PIP Tribunal successfully to change his award and get his Motability vehicle back. I have heard of a few others who have done this but don't know all of the outcomes.

I obviously prefer the double cassette route but would appreciate clarification of the legality/validity of following the Nev Cartwright route. There is enough worry about all of this anyway so certainly don't want any more issues but many people both on and off the forum have intimated that outright untruth was conveyed from their assessment that I want to have "belt and braces" on this.

Sorry to ramble but I rarely post as I tend to follow FAQ etc. but really need to get this right in my mind going forward. Thank you so much for all of the help,guidance,advice and endless patience (especially to me) that you guys convey. I truly appreciate your response.

I think I shall look at the 2 x identical cassette recorders and as you suggest not open any tape to be used until in front of the assessor. This should then be totally acceptable - I hope- and probably slightly less stressful than covert recording and running the risk of having the assessment terminated.

I presume it is then essential that the assessment body need to be informed prior to the day of assessment or do you also have to tell DWP? and can this request be made by phone or must it be in writing?

It confuses me though that in the Nev Cartwright case it was deemed o.k. for him to use - succesfully - a "professionally transcribed" copy of his covert recording. What is classified as "professionally transcribed?". Does it have to be a legal representitive i.e. solicitor? or can it be just someone that you pay to do it - which is then a professional service anyway?
Sorry for all of the questions but I am also conveying this information to my Brother in Law who now lives in a care home but is also required to have PIP assessment.
