Marriage nightmare. was created by slipry
Advice nereded. I got married 18 months ago, I am on DLA. high-mobility,middle care, my wife claims carers allowance for me. and she works 12 hours a week at a care home. Who should be the main claimant for ESA? Since getting married i have lost all my disability premiums of ESA. I am in the suporrt group, and receive a DISABILITY INCOME GUARANTEE £22.60,,, My wifes earnings £86.00 are deducted from total esa £173.00. Meaning all we get from ESA IS £109.00 PER WEEK,, Also housing benefit and council tax has been reduced,And i have to pay bedroom tax on one room, which the wife uses regularly due to my disruptiveness in the bedroom. [sounds wrong..lol.].I have been claiming benefits since 1995 after a road accident,,, Would it be better if the wife became the main claimant, And if so, how do we go about that,, All help is appreciated,,Thankyou Peeps.x

The obvious question is whether you wife would qualify for ESA in the first place.

I would not expect your wife to receive any more than you do, unless you can she is able to do Permitted Work but this may also prevent her receiving an award. I would try putting you information into one of the online benefit calculators.
