Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI) benefit

Hi I've been a member on and off for a few years but this will be the 1st time I have needed to post a new thread.
Today I received a letter from the DWP relating to Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI) Benefit.
I have been receiving help with the mortgage interest for the past 8yrs.
The letter plus booklet says that the AM I benefit will cease in April 2018 and will be replaced with a loan option. To be paid back either at the sale of a property or if the claimant dies.
Has any other members had this notification through the letter box....in the dreaded brown envelope.

How is this change in SMI Benefit fair to people who have worked and own their own home?
I understand people already in Social Housing, will not have to pay back a loan for any adaptations or alterations but people on the same type and amount of benefits, will have to pay the loan back on the sale of the property or on death.
My home is my security and my children's eventual inheritance. One of whom is on the Autism Spectrum and will require a place of familarality and safety, in the event of my demise.
The government have certainly kept this underhanded change in the rules hidden from the public.
I would like other members thoughts on this pending issue and how it will affect those of us who own our own homes. Thanks

Has anyone received the loan paperwork for this loan yet. Mine was supposed to be with me two weeks ago. Thanks

No, I've had nothing yet through the post. Just the phone call. Explaining my options. Chap on the phone couldn't tell me what the interest rate was on the loan..... Akin to taking out a mortgage loan from the bank but not being allowed to know the interest rate on your loan!! Isn't that flouting the financial regulations???

Many thank. Spoke to Serco today and they said that they have received lot of telephone calls regarding people not receiving the paperwork. She thinks it is because of the Christmas period but to just wait until next week. The interest rate should be what was set by your own mortgage provider I think.
