PIP deadline was created by Alison W.
I was given a deadline of 15th December to let the DWP know I want to apply for PIP.
Yesterday, I received another letter saying my DLA will be stopped temporarily on 15th December and I have until 12th Jan before it is stopped permanently.
If I opt not to apply until 12th Jan, will any new award be back dated to 15th December?
Are there likely to be any other risks? I need as much time as possible for health reasons.

As you currently have a DLA award, any Decision on your PIP claim willl apply four weeks after the date that it is made, there is no backdating.
Please be aware, as the letter says, if you do not make a claim by 15 December then your DLA payments will be suspended and will not be re-instated until a claim is made, you will receive back payment of any missed DLA once you make a claim.
As long as you are happy for your DLA to be stopped temporarily, then you can make a late claim for PIP.

Thanks so much Gordon. It’s great to be able to raise these worrying questions.
Just to clarify, for my foggy brain
if I leave it until 12 th January, I will not miss out financially or otherwise. The money
suspended from 15th will be paid?

Not having much confidence in the DWP, I rang their PIP Enquiry Line with the same question - 3 times because each gave me a different answer.
No. 1 said DLA no longer exists so of course not. No 2 said clients were only given one date (15th Dec in my case) and that’s when I should start the claim - there was no mention on my file of 12th Jan. No.3 said what you said.
Any advice? Could I lose money if I speak to the wrong person?
The same query goes for if I ask for a time extension at the end. Could I be turned down unfairly?

Don't assume that the staff on the Helpline know what they are talking about.
The requirement is defined in the PIP Transitional Provisions.
If you are still concerned about losing money then make the claim by the required date!
