ESA reassessment quick question was created by welshlass
Hello. I have recently completed the claim form for my husband's ESA reassessment. He has now been called for a face to face. Currently he is in the support group. His PIP reassessment decision has just arrived in the post with enhanced care and mobility awarded. Should I send a copy of this decision to the assesor, take it with me to the assessment or is it not relevant? I saw on the claim form that they did not want copies of letters relating to other benefits but I feel this is relevant as it confirms his situation in being unable to work.
I've been a member for quite a few years now and have always found your guides and advice extremely helpful. Thank you for all your hard work, it is very much appreciated.

PIP does not assess a claimants ability to work so you can't draw any conclusions from his award, however, there are areas of overlap between the two benefits although the criteria can still be very different..

So it's worth submitting the PIP report but for it to have any effect you really need to explain why it is relevant to the ESA activities.

Thank you. It's the being virtually unable to walk that is applicable. I will send a copy tomorrow, they can chose to ignore it if they so wish but the problems will be obvious at the face to face, or they should be!

Be careful of using the term "virtually unable to walk", it's a DLA term and has no relevance to PIP or ESA.

The PIP report will help with the ESA Moving Around activity but be aware ESA is not a walking test, it is a Mobility test! In addition to his walking it considers his ability to self-propel a manual wheelchair over the same distances, he does not need to be using a wheelchair or even to own one for it to be considered. SO even if you can show his walking is restricted, unless you can also show that you cannot self-propel the wheelchair he will still not score points.

Thank you. Letter is ready to post explaining why we feel he should continue in the support group, referring to relevant descriptors and his already submitted evidence. I will update on this thread when we get any decision.

Hello. just another update. We attended the face to face and found it most strange. It lasted less than 10 min and the assessor was out of the room for a few of those minutes checking something. They only asked a couple of questions regarding question 9 of the form and said we should hear somthing within a couple of weeks. We had completed most of the form! Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
