New ESA50 form 2 months after initial ESA award

Hi,

First of all a big thank you to the people behind the guides on this website, thanks to your help I was awarded PIP and ESA (support group) at the end of last year.

However, only two months after being awarded ESA I am being asked to fill in and send an Capability for work questionnaire again. The letter sent to me does not specify why.

None of my circumstances have changed. The only thing which has changed is that I have been referred to a different health service within the NHS? I told my gp about this and she didn't understand why I would need to submit a capability for work form again.

I am planning to contact the office dealing with my claim but before I do I thought I'd seek advice here? I have kept a copy of my previous application and could basically use that, but it seems really unreasonable, I am only just starting to recover from doing this on my own last year. Not being dramatic but it took a huge toll on my well-being and home life to fill in and send the ESA and PIP forms.

I live in Scotland, and I was awarded ESA on grounds of mental health in October 17.

Thanks again :)

Hello Annie,
It is certainly worth a phone call to the office dealing with your claim to check that this isnt a mistake. Make sure you obtain the details of the person you speak to. However the DWP can re-assess within three months of an award so until you know for sure that there has been an error you need to complete the form as if it were a new claim.

Hiya,

I too received another form to complete within 3 months of an award a good few months ago.
They cannot re evaluate you within the 3 months, so it could well be a mistake !!!
However please phone them and send in a letter registered to check it all up.
If the phone call 'person' states it is a mistake, still write in confirming it all just to keep a paper trail. I also cc'd our MP, who flagged it up with them too.

Yes it was all a mistake, but being told to rip up the form over the phone did not feel me with relief until I was notified back in writing that it was all a mistake.

Good luck
xx

Thanks all.

Called today and was told it is all perfectly normal, that my initial ESA award was only for 6 months so they want to reassess me. I explained this didn't make sense since my initial award didn't state it was a 6 months award, but she said it was normal.

Doesn't sound ok to me, any idea?

Thanks.

ESA awards are not for a specific time or until a particular date so the Decision Letter will not include any information about when you will be reassessed.

As you have been told that this is a valid reassessment you need to complete the ESA50 in detail and supply evidence to support your claim, even if it was send with the last form.
