The assessor turned up today (in the timeframe on the letter). The assessment took 54 minutes. The assessment was done by a paramedic, and she seemed pleasant enough allowing my wife to speak when i had trouble finding the words, although she did say she wanted to hear what I had to say. Not sure how to read it, listened to the recording a couple of times and can't find anything that contradicts my application form. There were a few things I said on the form that I did not reiterate in the assessment because they were not asked about. I was seated during the whole assessment. Been told it will be 6 to 8 weeks before I get the results.

Guess I'll have to put it out of my mind. Meanwhile I'll have to transcribe the recording incase I nead it.

Give it a couple of days and you should be able to request the assessment report by contacting the DWP office dealing with you claim.

PIP Decision usually take 2-4 weeks.

Will that give me an idea of whether or not I have been successful, in that does the assessor make a recommendation or just give their opinion on which descriptors apply in one's case? She was doing a lot of typing I know that.

On the letters I have there is Atos's alias: Independent Assessment Services, followed by a PO box no. and PIP # followed by a Post Handling Site letter. Do I write to one of these asking for the report giving my NI number, or do I phone them? I'm guessing it can't be done online.

Yes it will show the points that the assessor is recommending, a DWP Decision Maker will then decide whether they agree, it would be unusual for them not to, and then will make an award if appropriate.

You need to contact the DWP office dealing with your claim for a copy of the report, you can write or phone.

I've had a few days to think about the assessment and have now worked out what happened, and why the assessor asked/did what she did.

As I said the assessor was pleasent, this was clearly to lull me into a false sense of security. I am not being too cynical, here am I?

When I did the original telephone application I had already done my research to find what questions would be asked and had all the answers written down. One of the things I made sure they knew was I had memory problems, and my wife's name and DOB was taken as my representative.

On the form, which my wife filled out, I mentioned that I needed help with my medication because I forget to take it, cooking because I forget I've put pans on and even put electric kettles on the gas cooker. I also stated because of unstable angina and a long history of heart attacks, I needed constant supervision. I also saidd I get ancious when I go out because of my heart condition and could not walk more than 20m again because of angina and other problems.

When the assessor arrived my wife reiterated the information about my memory issues, and I definatly had problems answering some of her questions. When my wife tried to answer for me she was told by the assessor that she wanted to hear what I said. While she said she knew all about my heart condition et al, she was only interested how things affected my day to day life.

The things she did ask me where if I administered my own medicine and whether I could prepare and eat my own food, she also asked if I used a stick or wheelchair, and noted I live in a 3 story house. I did say I helped my wife with the veg, my wife added that only only helped cut the turnip up. I forgot to mention that I forget things and didn't say I couldn't prefer food just that I needed supervision.

Not sure if what is said at the assessment overrides what is said by the doctors and on the form. Also how can she take the word of someone who has previous head injuries over that of the person whom the DWP has been told is their representative? So that gives her the ammo to refuse care, and I am guessing the fact I live in a 3 story house will be her reason for refusing mobility; even though it is a small house and no more than 65ft in any direction, and the bathroom bedroom and day room are all on the floor one enters the house.

I have LRC & HRM DLA at the moment and have had it since the mid 90s. I may be wrong and she may give me a favourable report, but I am not holding my breath. Especially considering the people that are being turned down and the fact I "do not look disabled".

I'll give them a bell later in the week and get a copy of the assessment sent to me. I remember a couple of examples of reasons I need supervision I forgot to put in the form/tell the assessor, so I'll add them if I need to do a mandotary reconsideration. That is If I am allowed?

Yes you can do this as part of an MR.
