As explained in previous posts I am helping my GF to fill out her PIP Form, it was returned about two weeks back, I’m the only one she trusts!

Anyway I’ve come across the following:

PIP Assessment. Guide
Part One - The Assessment Process
Updated 27 Nov. 2017

Cases that should not require a face-to-face consultation

Although each case should be determined individually, the following types of case should not normally require a face-to-face consultation:

• There is strong evidence on which to advise on the case and a face-to-face consultation is likely to be stressful for the claimant (for example, claimants with autism, cognitive impairment or learning disability)
• The claimant questionnaire indicates a high level of disability, the information is consistent, medically reasonable and there is nothing to suggest over-reporting – (examples may include claimants with severe neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, severely disabling stroke)
There is sufficient detailed, consistent and medically reasonable information on function

I’m wondering is there an advantage or disadvantage to having a paper based assessment and if there is an advantage should she push for one? She did request a paper based assessment in her Additional Information Question; I also raised it in my letter of support.

If there were an advantage to the PBA then as someone with Bipolar she’d claim on the grounds that: a face-to-face consultation is likely to be stressful for her. A short letter from her consultant confirmed she’d been section twice within the past 3 years, that he recommended her for PIP and would be happy to supply additional information. Her GP supplied a letter and her medication list.

She lives in Northern Ireland and Capita carry out the assessments here

As always many thanks

Kevin

In general a PBA is better than a face to face, however, your girlfriend will not get one without the support of her GP or other doctors, the Assessment Provider will not offer one without up to date evidence (a letter) explaining the specific risks to her health if required to attend.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Also to add Kevin I had a Paper based PIP in the end and yes they are as rare as hens teeth as Gordon has stated you need updated unambiguous information that is consistent to the funtional daily ability's, I had so much back up information from all directions and at first they still even wanted to still do a home visit but my medics got involved and dealt with Capita because I could not cope and Yes Capita did Mine PB in the end I have so many problems with physical health and mental health basicly i should be dead but still had to fight.

I was formely known as (GoingOffMyHeadWithThisGovernment) Won PIP November 2017 ongoing award HR both. Now kept and got my ESA Support group but took a while.
