PIP assessment venue location was created by Dave Morgan
I have been on PIP (daily living and mobility components both at enhanced rate) and ESA (Support group) since December 2014 since suffering a Intracerebral Haemorrhage and Stroke, I was informed of my entitlement until November 2018 all straight forward up to yet.
Last week I received my assessment letter which gave my wife 10 days notice which was adequate to arrange as we thought (as my wife acts on my behalf).
We then found out the assessment location had changed, we have a Capita office in Walsall (where I first had to go 4 years ago) which is 3.3 miles from our home and all on one ground floor suited for wheelchair and severe mobility impaired people like myself.
My new assessment office is on the 2nd floor of an office building in a 1 way narrow street in Digbeth by the Bullring in the centre of Birmingham some 13.4 miles away at 5 minutes to 5 at night, my son took us yesterday (Sunday) for a look to find out where it is, unbelievable from trams , buses and pedestrians , and the abusive beggars how the powers of Capita think that this is a suitable venue beggars belief, oh and they enclose directions (4 different methods) of which if you are Mo Farrah you could accomplish them, and a expenses claim form to boot.
Now where is the logistical common sense in this, from a company who state they do everything in their power to help is ludicrous.
When we rang them the day the letter came to explain our plight they answered it was the only venue available and basically hard lines get on with it, upon viewing one ladies comments and photos on your site highlights the inappropriate venue.
I am the wife of the person this letter is about as he cannot string a sentence together and wheelchair reliant when going out and other health issues which they have documented , but on a assessment they do not look at the previous claim, they just use this as a new claim as we put the truth when we said there had been a change in his condition it had got worse, so if they do not use the previous information how can they base any assessment.
I have to have regular blood tests for another condition I have been diagnosed with and have to attend first thing and yes it is on the same day, with this Capita appointment it means us both being out for 12 to 13 hours, 7 to 8 hours is more than enough under present health conditions without the Capita fiasco.
If the person from Capita I spoke to had any idea of my husbands health issues would no without fail the location and venue is totally unsuitable, can anyone give advice please on such short notice.

Hello Dave Morgan,
Im sorry to hear the problems you are having. Providing this appointment is the first one you have received for this latest assessment you can telephone the assessment provider and rearrange it once and once only. You must do it on the telephone to make sure that the rearranged appointment is at a suitable time and place. The original appointment is computer generated so will pick an appointment at a time and place it finds is available and closest. Your other course of action is to ask your GP to provide a letter confirming that attendance is impossible and to request a home visit. The GP letter would need to be compelling. However the timing to be able to do this is quite short, but if you have a helpful GP maybe they could fax the request to the assessment provider . Its always good to get the names of the people you have spoken to just in case you need to refer back to any calls.

Dear Izzy, this is Lynn wife of Dave thank you so much for the valuable information, I took your advice and gave the telephone number I had a ring, when I explained what had happened and told her the extent of Dave,s disabilities she immediately made an appointment for a home assessment, now to be fair in the ladies defence she was very apologetic and nothing was too much trouble.
But then again down to you at Benefits and Work without your sterling advice I shudder to think what we would have done, the date is to be confirmed for early February, we will keep you informed and updated.
Thank you so much from me (Lynn) and a huge thank you from Dave,
