Advice about ESA assessment. was created by Joe
I had my assessment last week, I had my last assessment 3 and a half years ago and was placed in the support group. In that assessment I spent 40 minutes with the assessor. In the assessment last week the HCP came out to greet me and shook my hand. It was not what I expected from my last assessment at all. When we entered his office, he sat me down and said 'look, I don't think you should have had to make this journey and I apologise that you had to.' Then he said that he had looked through my files and he said that he has plenty of evidence about me. He said I won't keep you here long. Then he tapped away on his computer for a few minutes. Then he said 'now all I can tell you is that I have made a strong recommendation'. I asked him what he meant by that and he smiled and said that that was all he could tell me, that he had made a strong recommendation. And then he apologised that I had to make the journey and come all this way, he said that I shouldn't have had to have an assessment. And that was that. I was out in 10 minutes. Now I await the result, and I am totally confused as he did not examine me or ask me any questions as such. I just wanted to know what does this mean? Not what I expected at all!

Thank you for any help.

Hello Joe,

It is impossible to say one way or another if the assessment will provide a positive outcome. The assessor carries out the assessment and then the file is passed to the DWP decision maker to make the decision. Whilst it is usual that they concur with the assessment providers scores, they can decide that the decision should be different. I'm sorry the answer cannot be more definitive but it is impossible to predict.
