Assessment for work was created by Silverfox656
Dear fellow members, my name is Patrick, hopefully someone can help me with advice or opinions if they have gone through that which I am going through at the minute. I am in receipt of DLA high rate mobility and low rate care, also ESA in the support group. I will reach the age of sixty five years in March 2018. I suffer from recurrent depressive disorder and multiple problems caused by a RTC in 2007. Two weeks prior to Christmas 2017 I received notice to attend the Lincoln assessment centre for a face to face work assessment on the 08/01/2018 which I did, however, the interview lasted only ten minutes due to the fact that the lady who was carrying out the assessment said that she was not qualified to assess my particular case due to some of the injuries mentioned in my report. I have been asked to attend another face to face on 06/02/2018, can anyone please offer me some advice as to what might happen? Both my wife and me have been under extreme pressure and anxiety due to these assessments and our Christmas was ruined. Regards Patrick

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

So from your post one of your benefits is being reassessed, have you previously received an ESA50 to complete or an invitation to claim PIP?

On the assumption that it is your ESA that is being reassessed, as you do not mention any other processes, then the second appointment is because certain disabilities require a doctor to carry out the assessment.

Our ESA Claim guide have a section that covers the assessment process and the questions you are likely to be asked.

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help,.

Hi Gordon, how very kind of you to reply so promptly, thank you. I did fill form ESA50 in April 2017, so I guess that is what the assessment is for. However, I think that it is unenesscary to put us through this level of anxiety when I turn sixty five in March, thanks once again Gordon it will soon be Tuesday morning.

Unfortunately the reassessment is based on when the ESA50 was sent when you had the best part of a year until retirement, I'll not be drawn into a discussion on how reasonable that is :)

The bottom line is that you have to attend or you risk your ESA being stopped for the few weeks that it is still due.

That said there is still one option available to you, if this is the appointment that you have been sent then you have the option of moving it. I would wait until a day or two before and then contact CHDA to move the appointment, I would do so by phone so that you can move it as far back as possible. You don't say when in March you retire but if it is early March then it may be possible to push it back past his date, even if you cannot it may be close enough that you are not bothered about any lost ESA by your not attending. Of course I have not suggested this.

Hello again Gordon, I am afraid to say that my appointment is at 09.00 am tomorrow, No chance of cancelling, if the decision goes against me is it likely to affect my DLA payments? Thanks for your help I am most grateful. Patrick

Providing you can contact them before you leave then it is still an option.

DLA and ESA don't really share any criteria so I would not expect a negative ESA assessment to have any impact on your DLA claim, although you will at some time being invited to claim PIP.
