Special circumstances for care? was created by cheekypink
My friend was diagnosed with bowel cancer end of 2016, successfully treated but left with severe burns from radiation. She didn't apply for benefits. 1 monthave ago she had a procedure on her lady bits to help with the scarring left by the radiation. 5 days later she suffered a stroke and is left with mobility and speech problems. Her daughter called pip today requesting forms but was told to wait 3 months. Surely due to her history of severe pain she endured all of last year and now she's incapable of being on her own she can claim something? Any advice welcome

They can argue that they would receive an award based on how they were before the stroke, but the PIP legislation requires any limitations to have been effecting the claimant for three months, so they may miss out on a higher award due to the wait time.
