Hi can anyone help please I'm asking this for a friend. He has cancer and is classed as terminal but very dear how long he has left he doesn't know. He has chemo every 2 weeks and this will go on for however long he lives or decides to have it. He has been getting contribution based ESA and is in support group. I think I'm right in saying if you are on chemo the support group is automatic. Anyway he was made to leave his job and take his pension he said it's superannuation. He wants to know if this will effect his CB ESA and also if taking a lump sum will effect it. Also is he entitled to anything else he is currently getting enhanced PIP both components. He lives with his partner in her house. I'm not sure about her benefits but know she doesn't work and they have always kept their money etc separate from each other. Also is he allowed to gift any money he gets from his lump sum to family. He's not interested in money. He's more bothered that if his ESA gets stopped he will not have enough to help family and friends. Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

If they are only receiving Contribution Based ESA then any lump sum that they take should not effect there ESA payments.

Any regular payment that they receive will likely be treated as pension income, there is an £85 per week disregard followed by £1 deduction for every £2 if income in excess.

Have they looked at PIP?

They should try putting their information into one of the online benefit calculators.
