pip re assessment was created by Dave Morgan
My current award date is due for assessment November 2018, I am on enhanced for both PIP awards and also on the Support group for ESA, originally I suffered a cerebral haemorrhage (too deep a position to operate) and stroke and am now wheelchair dependant and was told considering my age 59 along with the risk of it happening again I would never work again, I have since developed other medical conditions of which make my overall condition worse, when my assessment letter came my wife truthfully filled it in saying my condition had changed for the worse, so after hearing back from them I was given a location and date which knowing my condition was totally unacceptable, so after contacting Benefits and Work for advice you as always gave sterling advice and was duly given a home face to face, I had this yesterday, and the appointment ran over due to my condition (which they knew of) but it was concentrated on the additional health conditions I have, to be fair it did say in my initial letter they did not want to know of any details of my previous conditions is this because they had already taken them into account and were just concerned about the changes we told them about and how it further affected me, I am sick with worry now as I was told it is 6 to 8 weeks for an answer, Capita did the original assessment for my PIP three and a half years ago and also did yesterdays, so could you advise me is this a mandatory stage they have to follow through with, I am now 62 years old (63 in September) and would like some sort of expert reassurances of the processes, I know PIP stops at age 64 so could you tell me what benefit carries on after 64.
As ever your help would be greatly appreciated.

Everybody has an assessment the vast majority of these will be via a face to face interview, so there is nothing unusual in what has happened to date.

We would expect a Decision in 2-4 weeks, so slightly quicker than the assessor suggested.

You can request a copy of the assessment by contacting the DWP office dealing with your claim, I would give it a couple of days before you make the request.

Just to add, PIP does not finish at 65, as long as you continuously meet the criteria you can continue to receive it, what you cannot do is make a new claim for PIP over the age of 65.

Cares Allowance and the State Pension are classed as overlapping benefits so only the one that pays the most will remain in payment, I would expect this to be your pension so the CA will stop but you retain an underlying entitlement, so if you receive an Income Related benefit such as Pension Credit then you can still be paid the associated Premium.
