Received letter DLA to PIP was created by Richard Walker
I am on lifetime DLA and just got the letter to say I need to reapply for PIP

I have a problem I have been on DLA for about 25 years I think and had the accident that left me disabled 27 years ago and since my DLA was awarded I have had very little contact with the doctor about my disability as it is pain related and I don't do pills so I just stop when the pain gets too much.

How do I show medical evidence of my disability when I don't have any? And any I may be able to get hold of will be over 25 years old

As far as I know both the Consultants who saw me and my GP at the time have all retired I hadn't seen a doctor for over 10 years until last October when I went to a new doctor and I was diagnosed with diabetes since then I been a couple of times

Can anyone please give me some advice I am panicking here, I don't know what to do

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Two things to do, first of all speak to your GP to see what help they may be able to provide.

Secondly go back over the information from your treatment after teh accident, you are look ing fo statement about a prognosis, for example; not expected to improve, such and such level of deisablement and particularly anything that specifically identifies a functional problem; again as an example; los of function in an arm or restricted movement.

Whatever you find and can get, you need to make sure that you explain your problems with completing the PIP activities in detail.

Make sure you understand the criteria you need, it's explained in our PIP Claim guide

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

and in particular you identify any areas that you cannot complete "reliably" and "on the majority of days", again these terms are explained in the guide.

If you have any questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Thank you Gordon

I will speak to my doctor but as I say he doesn't know me unfortunately

It is 27 years since my accident and unfortunately nothing was kept from that time and my memory is so vague that I cannot even remember the names of anyone never mind what they said. I am stumped as I never expected to ever need it again

Your GP may be able to tell you what information is available in your Medical records from that long ago, if there is anything there then you can request copies.
