PIP assessment query was created by cavair
I have my PIP assessment in about 10 days at home as my wife is stage 4 cancer sufferer. so looking after her sort of complicates my DLA to PIP changeover.
How long does the assessment generally take on average and what sort of questions do they ask? Sorry if some answers are elsewhere on the website/forum. What can one generally expect during the assessment? Im in my late 60s, have had chronic asthma all my life, have about 50% lung capacity and now with other medical issues and sent in various reports and letters so thought they might assess me on those alone.
Do i have to ask them if i can record the interview? Are they likely to take exception to being recorded? I noticed that if you ask to record elsewhere you have to provide a copy to them there and then.
Do they ask to see round the house? or is it a case of just sitting down and talking.
As well as coping with hospital visits and treatment for my wife its all adding to my stress and worry, especially if we lose the car. We have a wheelchair for her but i struggle to push her.
She used to look after me but now shes worse than me.
Its a real worry how the assessment will go.

Thanks for any advice.

There is a section in the PIP Claim guide that covers the assessment and the questions that you are likely to be asked.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

You need permission in advance from the Assessment Provider to make the recording.

It needs to be made to two tapes of CDs simultaneously.

You cannot use a digital recorder such as a mobile phone.

Someone has today reported problems is the media is not new, so make sure that the tapes or CDs are still shrink wrapped and opened in the presence of the assessor.

You need to give one of the recordings to the assessor.

Most members have used two relatively cheap cassette recorders, check that they record without problem, some have used external microphones.

The assessor is a visitor in your house and cannot go anywhere you do not want them to, in reality the vast majority of assessors will not want to look around.

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Hi cavair
as this is your change from DLA to PIP, please be aware of the mobility award as this is your last chance to retain your car as long as you meet the criteria
