PIP companion status was created by Flutter-by
If one has a companion at one's PIP home assessment, but one does not want them to answer MA's questions about client, are they legally bound to if asked? If one just wants them there as a general support and silent witness is that acceptable? Would it count against one if the companion had to state they intended to let client answer all questions and stay silent themselves? Both the client and companion want companion to not have to answer questions on behalf of client, even though they share the same abode and know client well.
Thank you.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

No, they do not have to answer any questions, if asked they can just refuse on the basis that they are attending to support you on the day only.

Thank you for answer. If the companion person at the home visit is also a husband/wife living at the property, does the same answer apply please?
Can I also ask, if the home visit PIP assessor asks to look around rooms in the house, is one legally obliged to comply with this? Does it make look a bit strange or are assumptions made if one does not allow it? How common is a request to look round? Thank you!

It might raise some eyebrows that a partner is unable to or unwilling to comment but the bottom line is that it is you being interviewed and the companion does not have to provide additional input.
