DLA versus PIP, a question was created by Flutter-by
Can you please explain in more detail this difference (I've heard about) in how this particular criteria for descriptors are judged in DLA versus PIP?
That a descriptor for DLA to be valid (gain points) one must have difficulty or be unable to do it for at least 75% of the time during a 24 hour period.
But that for PIP form, one only has to show difficulty or been unable to do it once in a 24 hour period.
I am not sure if this is correct or true, or of the exact wording and meaning? Can you advise please also how one should interpret it if it does indeed exist. Thank you!

Forgive me but you are wasting your time trying to put the PIP requirements in DLA terms, if you have been invited to claim PIP then the only thing you should be considering is what PIP requires.

PIP does not specifically look at the time that a claimant is effected during the day, it is primarily concerned with the number of days that a claimant is effected. There is guidance about daily requirements but it is dependant on the activity.

So as an example, if a claimant is unable to dress at the beginning of the day due to pain which is not relieved by their pain killers for several hours, then it is reasonable to argue that they would be effected for the whole day, however, the same argument would not work for preparing food as this could be done after the pain killers have taken their effect.

Okay thanks for explanation, seems I was misinformed to consider this as important difference to take note of.

It's important for DLA because it is the amount of care that is being looked at, PIP does not look at your care needs it is a functional assessment of your ability to complete a number of tasks.
