Hi I have the dreaded pip assessment on Wednesday morning I'm having to travel to Leicester from Corby. I have fibromyalgia, ocd, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, ibs, oab, borderline personality disorder, skin issues ,eye issues and women's issues I'm aware that it's not the conditions but how they effect you but I'm concerned everything I say will sound like a contradiction you see I have all the above issues and because of fibromyalgia pain I don't leave home often due to pain etc as struggle to walk but I have ocd so my head is constantly filled with thoughts and urges to wash my hands or bath or shower no matter what pain I'm in the ocd urges are too strong ,and like cooking I don't cook every day I don't always eat every day sometimes I order a take out but because of ocd I don't touch are meats etc so if I do cook its toast or something from the freezer also because of my mental health issues I don't use knives as I have constant ideas of self harming I'm so concerned I'm sure you can all understand no matter how much pain were in we still have to do stuff and I've learnt over years to hide my pain behind a laugh or smile ,yet inside I'm crying in struggling to do basic things making a cuppa tea even going toilet I spill stuff drop stuff fall over .I have to do my good shopping online as I can't get to shops due to pain but then my ocd restricts where I go out .it's like my sleeping I can sleep 12 hours yet struggle to wake up and feel like I've had 10 minute s sleep or I don't sleep at all please please tell me i,'ll be ok I'm dreading it.

If you have explained the problems you included in your post in the claim form that you completed then I would expect the assessor to be considering this as part of your interview.

The PIP Claim guide has a section that covers the assessment and the questions that you are likely to be asked.

Hi Nicola,

You've given a very clear account of what you need. That's good. Exactly like your post here, in the assessment, tell them very plainly 'how terrible your life is'. (For the purposes of your assessment, that is. Think more positively about life otherwise!)

Not many people can list eleven disabilities (ish). Problem is, the assessment is not a medical diagnosis. It is about your real life. Your disabilities are also invisible (like my own) so all they have to go on is what you tell them, and what they see. Assessors have written that the lame can walk and the blind can see. You need to put all of this up in neon lights to them.

Record it if you can, covertly if you have to. Don't count on the assessor knowing anything specialist about your disabilities. Statistically, you will probably get a nurse (mental health nurse, if you are lucky). You could also get an OT or physio.
