If you have an upcoming PIP Assessment either you, or take a friend and get them to do it, secretly RECORD your entire assessment. As far as I am aware PIP is the only benefit you can currently do this for, so use it whilst it’s available!

At my last PIP hearing I secretly recorded my assessment. The outcome of my assessment was ‘nil’ as I ‘didn’t complete the assessment’. I clearly did, as the 50+ minutes of recording shows. Quite what the assessor was typing on her screen throughout is a mystery, her online grocery shopping perhaps?! Anyway I’m currently awaiting a court hearing date (26 week wait, I’m told I’m under halfway through the wait). Meanwhile a copy recording is with specialist advisors and the local CAB Manager, who are handling paperwork for me in the run up to my court hearing. In her words my CAB Manager, on learning I had a copy of the assessment recorded which puts the Assessor at clearly ,Level: Liar, told me, ‘Oh we look forward to getting our teeth into this, we love a good battle when we have clear proof’.

For people who don’t already do this here’s a tip. ALWAYS always take clear photos of paperwork before you submit it. Then ALWAYS always always e mail it to yourself clearly Subject, titled and put it in a folder in your e mail account. This way you will NEVER lose copies, recordings etc and you can log into your e mail account wherever you are and be able to access important paperwork, documents, recordings etc. I do this for Everything I need to keep copies of for whatever reason. It’s been a Godsend, for example, being able to check back my last ESA and DLA assessment completed paperwork.

Be aware that covertly recording an assessment can lead to the claimant being classed as failing to participate so it should only be done with caution.
