Housing benefit and PIP was created by Tinker765
Hello,

I am currently living in shared accommodation, When i moved here the council said as i receive PIP it entitles me to max Housing Benefit.
Anyway i have found somewhere else to live which is 100 per week, I just want to know how much help i will get? Phoned the council and they are clueless, they said do there calculator to which i have but it just comes up with 65 pound per week help.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

I'm afraid only your LA or an advisor in your area can help. Housing Benefit is specific to the Local Authority and is based on local rents, so the amount for equivalent properties can be different from one LA to another.

Ok thanks, I will be moving to the same borough tho so you would think the same help would apply? Just wish someone from the Council could verify this so i can begin the process of moving.

If the property has the same specification as your current property then I would expect your HB payments to be the same, but if it is different you'll have to go by what the calculator says.

Hello RT
If you google local housing allowance rates you should get the link
https://ha-direct.voa.gov.uk?search.aspx & enter your postcode.
But to get the 1 bed rate for private rentals you need to be over 35.
Did you phone the housing benefit department itself & quote your ref no ? I've always found them helpful (as opposed to the switchboard or homelessness dept).
If you live alone you might be eligible for severe disability premium, but bear in mind your bills for heating, water, electricity, phone, TV will be much higher.
Hope this helps.

Hi Terrified,

Yes i have done that and Aware of the LHA rates. But when i move into my current accommodation, The council informed me that because i receive PIP i am entitled to max help with my Housing Benefit they paid all my rent which is 86 per week.
I am over 35, Yeah i phoned the Council the Benefit line and the lady was useless really. She told me to use there online calculator.
I get Severe Disability premium currently, Today i had the ESA50 through the post also.

I just want confirmation that the room i have found to rent how much help i will get towards the rent. As i fear of moving in to find i am unable to afford it
